Designed to give students hands-on networking experience in a smaller, science-focused environment, this year\u2019s event drew almost 300 students.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u201cIt surpassed our expectations,\u201d says College of Sciences Career Education Program Manager\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EJames Stringfellow.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E \u201cWe had strong interest and even better attendance from students, employers, and alumni. Our students have been asking for this, and we were happy to deliver.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003ETwenty-eight employers from industry, government, health care, research, and technology attended, providing information on internships, co-ops, research experiences, and full-time jobs. Many also offered resume critiques and networking practice for students just beginning their job search.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u201cWe\u2019re looking for students who think outside the box,\u201d says Assurant\u2019s\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EChris Kwan\u003C\/strong\u003E, a Double Jacket who earned his bachelor\u2019s in mathematics and master\u2019s in computer science. \u201cWe hired a wonderful intern that I met at the College of Sciences\u2019 Students Alumni Leadership Dinner last spring. Georgia Tech students make great hires because they are good at finding solutions.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECarrie Crabtree\u003C\/strong\u003E of the Georgia Department of Agriculture spoke with students about research opportunities across the state.\u0026nbsp;When asked what stands out to her on a resume, she says, \u201cWe like seeing undergraduate research. Even class projects help show us who can do great science.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EFor students, the event\u2019s smaller setting provided an approachable introduction to career fairs and networking.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u201cThis was my first career event,\u201d says first-year neuroscience major\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ESneha Thakur\u003C\/strong\u003E. \u201cIt was a great introduction to get my confidence up and get a feel for networking.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EBiochemistry major\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ECedric Aziamadji\u003C\/strong\u003E attended SCENE to understand available internship opportunities.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u201cThe jobs were more science-based, and they were all here in one place. At the bigger fairs, you have to search out the science jobs.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EFirst-year biology major\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EKyle King\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003Eliked the chance to speak with a variety of employers. \u201cI wasn\u2019t sure what to expect coming in, but I\u2019m walking out with some really good insights about research opportunities and internships.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003EStringfellow is already planning next year\u2019s SCENE.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp dir=\u0022ltr\u0022\u003E\u201cWe\u2019re hoping for even more students and employers in 2027.
