SecureDrop runs on the Tor network and lets sources securely and anonymously share documents with journalists - and it\u0027s not a toy project. It\u0027s deployed by major news organizations around the world, including \u003Cem\u003EThe New York Times\u003C\/em\u003E, \u003Cem\u003EThe Washington Post\u003C\/em\u003E, \u003Cem\u003EThe Guardian\u003C\/em\u003E, and ProPublica. Originally developed by the late transparency activist Aaron Swartz, SecureDrop has been maintained by FPF since 2013 and has helped break some of the biggest stories of the past decade.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDr. Helsby oversees FPF\u0027s engineering teams and previously led development of SecureDrop itself. She holds a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Chicago, was a founding engineer at Penumbra Labs working on privacy-preserving payments, and co-founded the Chicago-based civil liberties group Lucy Parsons Labs.
