Georgia Tech-Europe's Iyonka Strawn-Valcy named senior international officer at Rochester Institute of Technology

Georgia Tech-Europe congratulates Iyonka Strawn-Valcy, Ed.D., on her recent appointment as associate provost of international education and global programs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where she will serve as the university's senior international officer. We celebrate this well-deserved achievement as we prepare to say goodbye to a visionary and well-respected leader at Georgia Tech-Europe.

During her time as Executive Director of the Georgia Tech-Europe Atlanta office, Strawn-Valcy worked diligently to build a strong staffing and operational foundation to support Georgia Tech-Europe's continued growth and innovation. She was a key driver of improvements in faculty international assignments and supported Georgia Tech-Europe through its SACSCOC reaffirmation process. Most recently, Strawn-Valcy was instrumental in working alongside Abdallah Ougazzaden, President of GTE, in securing the necessary funding and approvals for the Georgia Tech-Europe site expansion project. Throughout her tenure, she built strong, lasting relationships with campus partners across the institution, relationships that have strengthened our global engagement and reflect the collaborative spirit she consistently embodies.

“Dr. Strawn-Valcy’s dedication and transformative leadership have been instrumental in elevating Georgia Tech-Europe’s mission and reach. Her vision and commitment have left an indelible mark on our community, and while we are sad to see her go, we are deeply proud of her achievements and wish her continued success at RIT,” said Abdallah Ougazzaden, president of Georgia Tech-Europe.

At RIT, Strawn-Valcy will report to the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs and lead the Office of International Education and Global Programs, coordinating the university's global campuses in Dubai, Kosovo, and Croatia.

"Iyonka is a respected leader whose experience, energy, and vision will help advance RIT's global mission and strengthen opportunities for students, faculty, and partners around the world," said Prabu David, RIT's provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

Strawn-Valcy’s last date at Georgia Tech is Tuesday, September 8.

<!-- Disquisition: it's funny how I write these TODOs and then never
