AAUW International Fellowships support women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents pursuing full-time graduate study in a STEM discipline in the United States. The award is $20,000 for a master's degree or $25,000 for a doctoral degree, disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning and midpoint of the fellowship term.

Eligibility

• Applicants must identify as women and must be non-U.S. citizens without U.S. permanent resident status.
• Applicants must be admitted to or enrolled in a first master's degree or an academic or professional doctorate, and the degree must be in a STEM discipline.
• Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for the highest degree earned.
• At least one academic degree, earned in the U.S. or abroad, equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree.
• Full-time study at an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, with residence in the U.S. during the fellowship period.
• The program must begin on or before September 15, 2027 and finish on or after April 30, 2028.
• Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79+, IELTS 6.5+, Cambridge 176+, or a native-speaker statement.

Timeline

• September 17, 2026 — Application closes, 5:00 p.m. ET
• March 2027 — Award notifications
• July–September 2027 — First stipend payment
• December 2027 / January 2028 — Second stipend payment
• July 31, 2028 — Final report due to AAUW

Please note

This competition is limited to STEM disciplines. Students in non-STEM fields who were eligible in previous years are not eligible for this cycle. The fellowship is not renewable, and previous AAUW fellowship or grant recipients (other than community grant recipients) are ineligible.
