His research explores the causes and consequences of global urbanization, the political economy of urban governance, and sustainable city futures. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, has published dozens of scientific articles, and is co-author of the book Cities and Development (Routledge 2016). He is currently writing a macro-history of global urbanization for Princeton University Press titled How we became urban: A natural history of human congregation, upon which this lecture is based.
