Since joining the Georgia Tech faculty in 1993, he has contributed to the Institute as a researcher, educator, and administrator. This model empowers faculty to fulfill responsibilities related to their own governance, the governance of students, and the maintenance of high educational standards. The Faculty Executive Board serves a central role in shared governance, representing faculty perspectives and working with Institute leadership on issues that shape the academic experience. Wilkinson will work closely with Secretary of the Faculty \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ae.gatech.edu\/directory\/person\/adam-michael-steinberg\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EAdam Steinberg\u003C\/a\u003E to oversee governance processes and amplify faculty voices.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cGeorgia Tech\u2019s strength has always been rooted in the talent and dedication of its faculty,\u201d Wilkinson said. \u201cI am honored by the opportunity to serve as chair of the Faculty Executive Board and to work with faculty colleagues and Institute leadership to ensure that faculty perspectives help inform decisions that affect our students, our research enterprise, and our academic community.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWilkinson earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford and completed graduate studies in chemical crystallography and inorganic chemistry at Oxford. Before joining Georgia Tech, he conducted research in the Materials Research Laboratory at the University of California, Santa Barbara. At Georgia Tech, he received tenure in 1999 and was promoted to full professor in 2004.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOver the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/chemistry.gatech.edu\/people\/angus-wilkinson\u0022\u003Ecourse of his career\u003C\/a\u003E, Wilkinson has led research efforts spanning inorganic materials chemistry, cement science, low and negative thermal expansion materials, and advanced characterization techniques. His work has addressed both fundamental scientific questions and practical challenges, contributing to advances in energy, environmental, and infrastructure-related materials.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWilkinson succeeds Dima Nazzal, director of professional practice and principal academic professional in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, who has served as chair since 2024. During her tenure, Nazzal provided thoughtful leadership and strong advocacy for faculty perspectives while helping guide the Institute through a period of continued growth and change.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Office of the Provost extends its appreciation to Nazzal for her dedicated service as chair of the Faculty Executive Board and for her longstanding commitment to Georgia Tech\u2019s faculty, students, and shared governance processes.
