Archives started digitizing the newspaper in 2007. Over time, what started as a scanning initiative grew into a major preservation and access project. Today, researchers, alumni, students, and the public can search and explore more than 100 years of the student newspapers online.

Bringing this collection online was a long-term effort, spearheaded by Digital Projects Manager Katie Gentilello with the assistance of student workers.

“Progress was occasionally slowed by changing institutional priorities, evolving technology, and the renovation of the Georgia Tech Library,” said Gentilello. “Despite these challenges, work continued steadily over the last 19 years, reflecting Archives’ commitment to preserving and sharing Georgia Tech’s history.”

Vintage issues document many of the defining moments in the Institute’s story, including student life during both World Wars, the admission of women in 1952, the Civil Rights era, advances in engineering and computing and Atlanta’s growth alongside Georgia Tech.

Among the most remarkable periods captured in the pages of The Technique is Georgia Tech’s role in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. As the home of the Olympic Village, campus became an international hub during a transformative moment for the city. Through its reporting, The Technique documented the excitement, challenges, and lasting impact of the Games on both Georgia Tech and Atlanta.
