Academy of Medicine Reopening Dec. 1

When it comes to finding a campus location to host your next event, don’t forget to consider the historic Academy of Medicine, which is currently undergoing a full-scale restoration.

The venue, located at the corner of Seventh and West Peachtree streets, is currently booking events beginning in December and can accommodate anything from a small meeting to a large conference.

“The building is one of the few in Atlanta that is listed in the National Historic Registry, so preserving the historical integrity of the space while implementing more modern, eco-friendly improvements has been key to the building’s restoration,” said Shawn Stinson, event coordinator for the space.

The building was donated to the Georgia Tech Foundation in 2008 and is managed by Campus Services. It was built in the 1940s and housed the medical library for the Fulton County Medical Society.

Although anyone — from on or off campus — may rent the space, student organizations, as well as faculty and staff booking the venue, will receive a discount. To make the venue more accessible to the campus community, a stop at the building has also been added to the Tech Trolley route.

Those interested in booking the space may contact Stinson or her staff.

<!-- Disquisition: it's funny how I write these TODOs and then never
revisit them. It's as though the act of writing the thing down frees me
