Spend the morning at the Hive Makerspace learning from experienced operators and Georgia Tech experts about radio communications, electronics, and operating on the air. In the afternoon, you’ll sit for the FCC Technician License exam and walk out with your own callsign.

No prior experience needed. Amateur radio is a valuable life skill, opens doors in STEM and emergency communications, and looks great on a resume. Whether you’re into satellites, emergency response, digital modes, off-the-grid comms, or just building cool electronics, ham radio gives you the skills and credentials to take your projects further.

The entry-level Technician license gives you access to VHF and UHF bands (perfect for handheld and mobile radios), nationwide repeater networks, digital modes, and even limited HF privileges so you can start making long-distance contacts. It lasts 10 years and can be easily renewed.
