<value>
The objective of the proposed research is using metadata extracted during compilation to detect compiler-induced security issues and to selectively invoke security protections at deploy time. Modern compilers are far more advanced than simply translating source code into machine code. Their complicated optimization pipeline significantly improves the performance of the compiled program, and their modular design allows security protections to be integrated during compilation. However, the heavy optimizations could bring negative impacts to security, and applying security protections during compilation lacks the flexibility to deploy the compiled program to environments with different security requirements. Our proposed research solves the issues by identifying compiler-induced security issues and selectively invoking security protections after compilation, using the information extracted during compilation.
</value>
