He emphasized IMS\u2019s three main pillars: \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/research-overview\u0022\u003Eresearch and innovation\u003C\/a\u003E, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/education-and-outreach\u0022\u003Eeducation and workforce development\u003C\/a\u003E, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/core-facilities\u0022\u003Ecore facilities\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cFounders Night is about more than showcasing our world-class facilities \u2014 it\u2019s about building a stronger innovation community,\u201d said \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/people\/billyde-brown\u0022 id=\u0022menur5g9\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 title=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/people\/billyde-brown\u0022\u003EBillyde Brown\u003C\/a\u003E, senior research engineer and external user outreach manager at IMS. \u201cWe want to connect entrepreneurs, researchers and industry partners, spark collaborations and ensure these resources help turn ideas into impactful technologies.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBrown and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.gatech.edu\/people\/michele-guide\u0022\u003EMichele Guide\u003C\/a\u003E, associate director of external engagement, invited attendees to connect with them and share feedback on how IMS can better support Atlanta and Georgia\u2019s innovation needs.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe heart of the event was a series of lightning talks from entrepreneurs whose companies were born (or accelerated) within IMS core facilities. Their journeys underscored the impact of access and mentorship that IMS had on their careers.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMason Chilmonczyk, CEO and co-founder of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/andsonbiotech.com\/\u0022\u003EAndson Biotech\u003C\/a\u003E, recounted his journey from Ph.D. student to startup founder.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cPretty much every step in this process required expertise from somebody in this room,\u201d he said. \u201cThe Georgia Tech cleanroom was responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in fundraising because of the microfluidic technologies.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EChilmonczyk\u2019s product, the nyna chip, revolutionizes mass spectrometry sample preparation, which cuts workflows from weeks to days.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ENext, Craig Green, CTO of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/carbice.com\/\u0022\u003ECarbice\u003C\/a\u003E, shared how his team scaled fabrication from four inches of material per month in the Georgia Tech cleanroom to producing 30 million square inches annually at their Atlanta-based factory. The IMS facilities were key to working out the kinks in the design process.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe final speaker, Ashley Galanti, founder of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/amgdetection.com\/\u0022\u003EAMG Detection\u003C\/a\u003E, described her experience designing a wearable device that predicts epileptic seizures 10-45 minutes before onset.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI would not be able to fill this gap if it were not for the IMS facilities,\u201d said Galanti. \u201cYou all not only provided me access to world-class equipment, but mentorship, encouragement, and a community that empowered me to grow from a student to a scientist and now a founder.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGalanti began using the facilities with zero technical training. She was taught by IMS staff from the ground up \u2013 and still utilizes the facilities and staff expertise for guidance with her work.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAfter the talks, attendees were invited to network and tour IMS\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.research.gatech.edu\/mcf\/materials-characterization-facility\u0022\u003EMaterials Characterization Facility\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/matter-systems.research.gatech.edu\/cleanroom\/micronano-fabrication-facility\u0022\u003EMicro\/Nano Fabrication Cleanroom\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMore than a showcase, Founders Night underscored IMS\u2019s commitment to building a community around advancing technology from matter to systems.
