With immersive experiences, these narratives can feel more personal, allowing us to connect more deeply to the world, different communities, and ourselves. While these experiences can challenge our potential biases and preconceived ideas, significant challenges and potential ethical risks can still arise. These risks can include a perpetuation of trauma, feelings of uneasiness about the experience, or even a possible lack of clarity regarding the actual purpose or intent of the experience. It is within this problem space that this research exists. Utilizing the scholarship of Immersive Experience Design, Digital Archiving, and Black Girlhood Studies to develop an Ethnographic Immersive Methodology (EIM), this dissertation aims to combat the unethical belief that immersive experiences can illicit change through an EIM-centered praxis.
