      <value><![CDATA[<p>The objective of the proposed research is design, create, and characterize novel photonic integrated circuits (PICs) in conjunction with co-designed electrical circuits meant for radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) applications targeting space-borne missions. The benefits of using photonic signaling in conjunction with, or in place of, conventional electrical data generation, transmission, and signal processing are varied and many. Photonic signals represent high-frequency, low-noise, low-loss data streams that can exist in secure channels simultaneously allowing for higher data rates with theoretically infinite isolation. In addition, PICs demonstrate excellent resilience to space radiation effects making them especially attractive for emerging space applications emphasizing higher-speed interconnects and large data bandwidths.</p>]]></value>
