This identity has granted me many unique challenges that would be difficult to overcome without the help of many mentors and peer support along the way.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/blockquote\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBuzz Buddies is designed to help with some of the more nuanced or social aspects of life at Georgia Tech such as housing, hobbies, extra-curricular activities, and life in Atlanta.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAmaya McNealy, a third-year Ph.D. student in industrial engineering added,\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cblockquote\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGraduate school can be difficult to navigate from an academic, professional, social, and personal perspective. Those interested in receiving mentorship fill out a brief application, which can be \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScwxVKC7YiNGb0Brj_RZEefRwKAEFEqMXV3NSPt52Icd3LAxw\/viewform\u0022\u003Eaccessed here\u003C\/a\u003E. Mentees are paired with an experienced graduate student mentor through a holistic evaluation. The application reviewers consider professional and academic pursuits, hobbies and interests, and other factors. The application allows both mentors and mentees to identify specific needs, which will be considered during the matching process.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch2\u003EWhat to Expect as a Buzz Buddy\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/h2\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor mentees, the program starts this summer and ends in December, although the specific starting time is up to the mentors and mentees themselves to decide. Participation for Buzz Buddies is a once-a-month meeting to be determined between mentor and mentee. These meetings can be informal but are designed to act as a check-in with the mentee\u2019s progress and address any questions or concerns they have.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch2\u003ECommunity Events, Workshops, and Peer Connection\u003C\/h2\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to the monthly meeting, three social events will be held each semester, designed to build community within Buzz Buddies cohort and allow students to interact with students who have similar experiences.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn the fall semester, participants can expect a series of social gatherings of various forms to better strengthen the mentor-mentee community.
