  <body><![CDATA[<p>Brenda J. Elsey will be delivering the next installment of the Soccer, Politics, and Society Speaker Series titled, "Understanding Marta: Gender and Football in Latin America.&nbsp;</p><h2>About the Speaker</h2><p>Elsey is a professor of history and she studies the history of gender, popular culture, and politics in 20th-century Latin America. She is recognized as an authority on Latin American football, or soccer. She is the author of <em>Citizens and Sportsmen: Fútbol and Politics in Twentieth Century Chile</em>, F<em>utbolera: A History of Women and Sports in Latin America</em>, and <em>Losing to Win: Labor and Politics in Latin American Sport.</em> Elsey has published many articles in academic journals and anthologies. She also served as a senior editor for Oxford University Press’ Research Essays in Latin American History: Southern Cone. In 2018, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar award in Argentina.</p><p>Co-sponsored by the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, the Soccer, Community, Innovation, Politics (SCIP) VIP, The Homer C.
