Acting Audition

Auditionees should familiarize themselves with one of the two sides, choosing to read for one of the following characters: Melchior, Wendla, Moritz, or Ilse.

Vocal Audition

Auditionees should prepare one of the five excerpts from the show. Select the one that best shows your voice rather than focusing on which character sings the song.

Accompaniment: 0:13 7-beat intro (count 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3”you say”), 0:17 enter

Note: the lyrics in the libretto are different from the lyrics on the original cast recording. You’ll start singing “and heaven waits, so close it seems” where the original cast recording says “but still it says, the butterfly sings.” Please use the lyrics printed in the libretto!
