Kosal, associate professor in Georgia Tech\u2019s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been appointed to a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) committee that will look for ways to help the U.S. Army contend with emerging threats.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe committee, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.nationalacademies.org\/our-work\/evaluating-us-army-core-competencies-for-the-future-preventing-technological-surprise\u0022\u003EEvaluating U.S. Army Core Competencies for the Future: Preventing Technological Surprise\u003C\/a\u003E, is tasked with identifying gaps in the Army\u2019s capabilities and preparing strategies to address new threats stemming from technological advancements.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIn July 2024, another NASEM committee Kosal helped lead issued a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/nap.nationalacademies.org\/catalog\/27159\/chemical-terrorism-assessment-of-us-strategies-in-the-era-of\u0022\u003Econsensus report\u003C\/a\u003E on chemical terrorism and how the U.S. should respond as it shifts attention from violent terrorism to threats from China, Russia, and other state actors.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/margaret-e-kosal\u0022\u003EKosal \u003C\/a\u003Ealso recently served on an experts\u0027 group convened by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). OPCW is the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention. The group met in October at the OPCW Center for Chemistry and Technology to develop recommendations for legislation to reduce the risks of chemical terrorism and proliferation.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EKosal is a leading expert on the intersections of science, technology, and security policy.
