The annual event showcasing practitioners of the Japanese martial art featured intense competition across multiple divisions, bringing together Kendo practitioners — kendo-ka — from the Southeast. Three KGT members earned honors.  

Shawn Ha, a fourth-year Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering, placed first in the 3-Dan and 4-Dan divisions.  

Daniel Duan, a fourth-year computer science major, and Jonathon Choi, a fourth-year mechanical engineering major, competed against one another in the Mudansha division finals. Ultimately, Duan captured first, with Choi finishing a close second.  

Together, these performances allowed KGT to solidify its presence within the broader kendo community. 

“The success of Shawn, Daniel, and Jonathon reflects not only their personal dedication but also the strong support and rigorous training environment fostered by the club,” said Ryan Wolfe, promotion officer for the group. “The guidance of our faculty advisor Daniel C. Kim and instructor Bryan Kapplow was fundamental to the growth and achievements of the club through the latest semesters.”
