{"678651":{"#nid":"678651","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Kendo Club Excels in Regional Championship ","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EMembers of the Kendo Club at Georgia Tech (KGT) recently came out on top at the Southeastern United States Kendo Foundation Championship Tournament. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe annual event showcasing practitioners of the Japanese martial art featured intense competition across multiple divisions, bringing together Kendo practitioners \u2014 kendo-ka \u2014 from the Southeast. Three KGT members earned honors. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EShawn Ha, a fourth-year Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering, placed first in the 3-Dan and 4-Dan divisions.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDaniel Duan, a fourth-year computer science major, and Jonathon Choi, a fourth-year mechanical engineering major, competed against one another in the Mudansha division finals. Ultimately, Duan captured first, with Choi finishing a close second.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETogether, these performances allowed KGT to solidify its presence within the broader kendo community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe success of Shawn, Daniel, and Jonathon reflects not only their personal dedication but also the strong support and rigorous training environment fostered by the club,\u201d said Ryan Wolfe, promotion officer for the group. \u201cThe guidance of our faculty advisor Daniel C. Kim and instructor Bryan Kapplow was fundamental to the growth and achievements of the club through the latest semesters.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EKGT welcomes new members of any experience level each semester.
