<value>
The objective of the proposed research is to address the implementation of vanadium dioxide (VO2) reconfigurable metasurfaces for applications such as 5G communication and sensitive device protection by leveraging the nonlinear sharp conductivity contrast of the material. This proposal covers the design, simulation, fabrication, and measurement of two VO2 metasurfaces: a 1-bit reconfigurable reflectarray and an energy selective surface for sensitive receiver protection. The work leverages low-loss VO2 switches to create both a highly efficient beamsteering antenna array and a high contrast surface for shielding sensitive electronics. The work is the first experimental demonstration of a VO2 energy selective surface and will be the first demonstration of an independently controlled VO2 based aperture for beamsteering.
</value>
