{"678457":{"#nid":"678457","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Lee Receives Top Award as ECE Has Strong Showing at IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Tech \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E (ECE) had a successful trip to the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.ieee-array.org\/\u0022\u003E2024 IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology\u003C\/a\u003E in Boston this October.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIt was highlighted by Ph.D. student Seung Yoon Lee winning the third prize of Student Paper Competition for his research titled, \u201cHighly Integrated mmWave Antenna-on-Chip Arrays Using Substrate-Integrated Air Cavities.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe paper was selected out of 172 accepted papers at the conference.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EIt presents the design, fabrication, and characterization of a 60 gigahertz (109 hertz) beamforming array for 6G high data-rate wireless systems. Specially, it introduces mmWave 1\u00d78 on-chip miniaturized cavity antenna arrays with high efficiency and reduced mutual coupling, leading to better connectivity.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe proposed silicon-based antenna offers the potential for future wireless system-on-a-chip (SoC) applications better equipped to handle high data throughput. Microfabrication of the proposed antennas and cavities was performed at \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cleanroom.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech cleanroom facility.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ELee completed the research in Associate Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/directory\/nima-ghalichechian\u0022\u003ENima Ghalichechian\u003C\/a\u003E\u2019s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/antennas.ece.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EmmWave Antennas and Arrays Laboratory\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThis is the latest of many research recognitions for Lee.
