The Forward Foundation, which administers the prize, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/forwardartsfoundation.org\/forward-prizes-for-poetry\/\u0022\u003Esaid\u003C\/a\u003E the book explores art, depression, and isolation\u0026nbsp;\u201cin ways that open up new modes of expression, expanding the scope of what art, poetry, and the human mind can do, exploring the nature of the self, existence, life and death.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe prize comes with a \u00a310,000 award.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting to be shortlisted for such an incredible book prize, let alone to win the award. I read all the books on the shortlist this summer and felt that every book could have easily received the award, which just makes winning the prize that much more rewarding,\u201d Chang said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EChang is the director of Poetry@Tech and teaches in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHer previous works have earned her the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award from the Poetry Society of America, the Chowdhury Prize in Literature, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the PEN\/Voelcker Award, and a PEN Center USA Literary Award, a California Book Award. Her previous collection of poems, \u003Cem\u003EOBIT\u003C\/em\u003E, also was long-listed for a National Book Award.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EChang, the first Asian-American and first woman to hold the Bourne Chair, helps lead Poetry@Tech\u2019s esteemed reading series and teaches the craft of poetry to students from across Georgia Tech. The craft is particularly relevant to Georgia Tech\u2019s STEM students, she noted in a 2023 \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/669917\/where-craft-mystery-intersect-meet-victoria-chang-bourne-chair-poetry\u0022\u003Earticle\u003C\/a\u003E introducing her to campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cPoetry is organized disorder, or disorderly organization.
