Chiral Andreev edge states in graphene

Speaker: Dr. Gleb Finkelstein

Host: Prof. Zhigang Jiang

Title: Chiral Andreev edge states in graphene

Abstract: We explore graphene samples in a contact with a type II superconductor at high magnetic fields. In the quantum Hall regime, we observe signatures of the chiral Andreev edge states (CAES) formed along the interface with the superconductor. Qualitatively, the CAES can be visualized as a result of multiple Andreev reflections of a single electron/hole skipping along the superconducting interface. As a result, these single particle states consist of electrons and holes hybridized in a fashion similar to Majorana fermions. The signatures of the CAES are found to be sensitive to the configuration of vortices in the superconductor. We further explore the CAES loss and decoherence processes.

Bio: Gleb Finkelstein is an experimentalist interested in physics of quantum nanostructures, such as Josephson junctions and quantum dots made of carbon nanotubes, graphene, and topological materials. These objects reveal a variety of interesting electronic properties that may form a basis for future quantum devices.
