The NSF\u0027s HAMMER Engineering Research Center (ERC) is a 10-year, 5-university project that aims to revolutionize manufacturing with new tools, such as robotic blacksmithing. Unlike traditional methods that rely on force, HAMMER-ERC emphasizes precision control to transform the shape and microstructure of materials. This presentation will outline HAMMER\u0027s research agenda, as well as its plans for education, engagement, and economic development.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbout Glenn S. Daehn:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EDaehn is the Mars G. Fontana Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at The Ohio State University and Director of the NSF Engineering Research Center HAMMER, which focuses on revolutionizing manufacturing through digital deformation technologies. His research spans manufacturing process innovation, particularly in impulse-based processes for joining, shaping, and cutting materials. He also played roles in founding the LIFT Manufacturing USA Institute and Ohio State\u2019s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) and the Ohio Manufacturing Institute. Beyond research, he contributes to K-12 STEM education and advocates for manufacturing policy, emphasizing the role of land-grant universities.
