{"676413":{"#nid":"676413","#data":{"type":"news","title":"ECE Takes on Dragon Con 2024","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs nearly 70,000 people converge on downtown Atlanta for \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.dragoncon.org\/\u0022\u003EDragon Con 2024\u003C\/a\u003E over Labor Day weekend, they\u2019ll feel the impact of a handful of Georgia Tech \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E (ECE) faculty.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ENone more ever-present than Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/directory\/aaron-d-lanterman\u0022\u003EAaron Lanterman\u003C\/a\u003E, who will be participating in or leading six sessions over the four-day event.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe sessions will be a mixture of talks and panels covering video games, robotics and the science of music, as well as providing hands-on demonstrations and doing Q\u0026amp;As with the audience.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EECE graduate-turned \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gtri.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Research Institute\u003C\/a\u003E (GTRI) senior esearch engineer Sean Wilson will also give a talk titled, \u201cThe Robotarium: Democratizing Access to Robotics.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStepping away from the science and into the sonics, Friday night Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/directory\/larry-p-heck\u0022\u003ELarry Heck\u003C\/a\u003E will be there on the trumpet with his band The Atlanta Swing Orchestra.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThey\u2019ll play their swing jazz music for convention-goers in the Hyatt Regency Centennial Ballroom II-IV starting at 8:30 p.m.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech and ECE has had a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/news\/2023\/12\/georgia-tech-community-and-alumni-set-slay-dragon-con-2016\u0022\u003Epresence at Dragon Con dating back several years.\u003C\/a\u003E Lanterman has attended Dragon Con since 2001 and has spoken at it several times in the past. This year will be his first year speaking since 2021.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EECE Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/directory\/john-d-cressler\u0022\u003EJohn Cressler\u003C\/a\u003E also gave a talk in 2016 titled, \u201cThe Many Miracles of the Microelectronics Revolution.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStarting in 1987, Dragon Con has grown into one of the largest pop culture conventions in the U.S., attracting over 85,000 people in 2019.
