The camp is the first to be offered through a collaboration between the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and Georgia Tech\u2019s popular \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ceismc.gatech.edu\/\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ECenter for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing\u003C\/a\u003E, which connects Georgia Tech faculty with K-12 students.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe Cinemagination camp showcases everything the School of Literature, Media, and Communication offers in filmmaking and film practices,\u201d said Thornton, who is the director of film and media production and teaches filmmaking courses in LMC. \u201cIt\u2019s a great outreach tool. I enjoyed it and hope we can offer it again next year.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/lmc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/john-thornton\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EThornton\u003C\/a\u003E is one of the reasons LMC shines in the filmmaking education space. He has created films, award-winning documentaries, and TV shows with studios such as Walt Disney Pictures, ABC Family, and HGTV. Most recently, Thornton directed the documentary \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/673594\/documentary-ivan-allen-college-faculty-explores-challenges-autism\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ENavigating Autism in Communities of Color\u003C\/a\u003E, produced by Jennifer Singh in the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cJohn is an amazing teacher and so supportive of the students,\u201d said Michelle Powell, whose daughter Helena took part in the camp. \u201cHelena came home every day animated about what she\u2019d learned and experienced.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThornton says he wanted students to experience as many aspects of filmmaking as possible during the weeklong camp, from preproduction, scriptwriting, and lighting to editing and postproduction.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThroughout the week, students worked in small groups to film short scenes using the same script. Thornton asked each group to interpret the scene in a different genre, such as comedy, drama, or suspense.
