{"675570":{"#nid":"675570","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Secure Hardware VIP wins Best Paper Award at International Computing Conference","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA group of Georgia Tech \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E (ECE) students in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/vip.gatech.edu\/teams\/vpm\u0022\u003ESecure Hardware Vertically Integrated Projects \u003C\/a\u003E(VIP) group won the Best Paper Award at the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/mecoconference.me\/meco2024\/\u0022\u003EMediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing\u003C\/a\u003E (MECO) in Montenegro in June.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe paper was co-authored by all undergraduate students, with guidance from ECE associate professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/directory\/vincent-j-mooney\u0022\u003EVincent Mooney\u003C\/a\u003E. Three students were from ECE: Gabrielle Calderon, Andrew Hamby, and Valeriia Rubanova. Two others were from the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/scs.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Computer Science\u003C\/a\u003E: Olivia Blanchette and Jing Liu.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis is the first time I have ever seen an undergraduate team take an unknown research problem with no external funding or relationship to ongoing graduate research and turn the idea into a paper which receives an award,\u201d Mooney said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe paper titled, \u201cLinguistic Encryption for Underwater Communication,\u201d examined how to use a stream cipher to encode short-fixed length sounds for a swarm of robots to communicate with each other deep under water in a cryptographically secure fashion.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe idea was to \u0022translate\u0022 simple commands into the constructed Toki Pona language, which are then mapped to dolphin noises.
