{"675243":{"#nid":"675243","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Valipour Wins GT Next Award for MicroCodes Technology","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ece.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Electrical and Computer Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E (ECE) second-year Ph.D. student Aref Valipour was awarded a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/commercialization.gatech.edu\/gt-next-award-spring-2024-winners\u0022\u003EGT Next Award\u003C\/a\u003E for his MicroCodes technology, which shows utility in aiding with cellular characterization and management.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe award is given annually by the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/licensing.research.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EOffice of Technology Licensing\u003C\/a\u003E (OTL), recognizing the inventiveness of Georgia Tech\u0027s graduate students and postdocs. Winners submit projects that show commercial promise and a commitment to research and development that can contribute significantly to the betterment of society.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMicroCodes is comprised of a new microfabrication method and coding method. Initially developed as a facilitator in the characterization of Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs), it later evolved to become a universal add-on for a number of other medical and MEMS applications.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe award acts as a direct financial investment into the future of the technology, helping to carry out different commercial processes, such as procuring materials and supplies, and carrying out customer discovery initiatives.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EValipour was one of five winners this year.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHis research interests are centered around MEMS, microfabrication, bioelectronics and utilizing micro and nano engineering to understand how cancer works and how it can be managed.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHe\u2019s developed technologies and methods to characterize, monitor, and intervene in cancer to ultimately create the platform that gives an edge in the fight against cancer. To date, these efforts have resulted in seven invention disclosures to OTL, with the award-winning MicroCodes being the latest.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EValipour is currently a member of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/biomems.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EBiomedical Microsystems Laboratory\u003C\/a\u003E.
