{"674285":{"#nid":"674285","#data":{"type":"news","title":"MSA Team Participates in 2023 Hacklytics Competition, Wins Award","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EBy Shelley Wunder-Smith\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nIn February 2023,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/samaksh-gulati-38b842119\/\u0022\u003ESamaksh Gulati\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E(MSA 23) and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/sanjay-vishwakarma-279546_geogiatech-hacklytics-2023tech-activity-7030640225093619712-P_pB\/?utm_source=share\u0026amp;utm_medium=member_ios\u0022\u003ESaksham Arora\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;(MSA 23) participated in\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/datasciencegt.org\/\u0022\u003EData Science at GT\u2019s\u0026nbsp;Hacklytics\u003C\/a\u003E, where they were awarded Best Use of MongoDB for the competition.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs part of the challenge, Gulati and Arora, who were both students in Georgia Tech\u2019s\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.analytics.gatech.edu\/node\/1\u0022\u003EMaster of Science in Analytics\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(MSA) program, selected a problem statement from among four tracks: sustainability and energy, finance, healthcare, and sports. The duo chose healthcare, as they were interested in highlighting the current state of healthcare access in the U.S; specifically, they investigated the effectiveness of and access to healthcare systems across different states during the pandemic.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe collated datasets containing data specific to healthcare facilities, mobility, vaccination rates, and Google Search trends,\u201d they explained. \u201cWe also looked at a Covid-19 dataset that helped us explore how healthcare systems in different states performed during the pandemic, as well as which systems will need more resources and funding to perform better in the future.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGulati and Arora used MongoDB, a NoSQL database, to manage all of this data.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cMongoDB is different from traditional relational databases. It can support geospatial data, which allowed us to perform geospatial queries on the Covid-19 dataset\u2019s location-based data, and thus analyze the virus\u2019s spread on a map,\u201d they said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo communicate their data insights, Gulati and Arora created interactive dashboards and reports by integrating MongoDB with Tableau, a data visualization tool.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe pair noted that their MSA coursework helped prepare them for the Hacklytics challenge.
