The perfect sample for cryoEM is a monodisperse homogeneous solution of a single molecule of interest, in a single conformation, however it is not always possible. We use modern SPA tools to characterize a highly heterogenous mixture of virus-like particles (VLPs), explore multiple symmetries formed by VLPs, and highlight “the good, the bad and the ugly” of data processing.

Additionally, I will share insights into our utilization of bacterial surface display and the advancement of PCR techniques for environmental monitoring, highlighting evolutionary biology's pivotal role in overcoming complex challenges in clinical laboratory science.
