<p><strong>Seminar Title:</strong>&nbsp;Quantization noise: an engineering approach</p>

<p><strong>Abstract:&nbsp;</strong>Quantization&nbsp;is the process of approximating a continuous signal through a set of discrete values. While physical quantities are precise, when digitized&nbsp;and inserted into a computer or a digital system, they are rounded to the nearest representative value. This process introduces&nbsp;quantization&nbsp;error, i.e.,&nbsp;noise. This talk will introduce how to deal with digital systems where&nbsp;quantization&nbsp;is applied using statistical description of the process. Furthermore, fixed-&nbsp;and floating-point&nbsp;quantization&nbsp;will be also addressed. Finally, some examples will be shown where&nbsp;quantization&nbsp;play&nbsp;an&nbsp;important rol</p>

<p><strong>Bio:</strong> Dr. Zsolt Kollár is currently a Fulbright scholar in electrical&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;at Kennesaw State University (KSU). He is also&nbsp;an associate professor at the Budapest University of Technology&nbsp;and Economics (BME) where he serves as the head of the MATLAB Laboratory. Previously he was a visiting researcher at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He is responsible for the maintenance&nbsp;and development of the Fdident (Frequency Domain Identification Toolbox) MATLAB Toolbox. His research interests include digital signal processing, system identification,&nbsp;quantization&nbsp;effects,&nbsp;and wireless communications.</p>
