She is also an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) fellow for her work on Arab atheists. She grew up in Burgas\u2014the largest port city on the Black Sea, and received her doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Khazaal studies how disenfranchisement, media, and language affect each other and has focused on Lebanon, atheists in Arabic-speaking communities, refugees, and non-human animals. Her book,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EPretty Liar: Television, Language, and Gender in Wartime Lebanon\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Syracuse UP, 2018), is the only study that explores the role of audiences in the development of media legitimacy during violent crises with a focus on Lebanon.\u0026nbsp;Her publications on speciesism in the media\u2014including\u0026nbsp;her co-edited\u0026nbsp;volume on borders and the displacement of human refugees and nonhuman animals,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003E\u2018Like an Animal\u2019: Critical Animal Studies Perspectives on Borders, Displacement, and Othering\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Brill 2020)\u2014have\u0026nbsp;received international recognition in Spain, Turkey, Australia, Canada, and the US. She has contributed to the topic of atheism with publications on the use of pseudonyms by Arab atheists, on how gender affects the way Arab atheists approach television, and on the embedded atheism in Mohamed Choukri\u2019s literary oeuvre.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMohammad Ghomi is a geometer who works on classical\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ghomi.math.gatech.edu\/Papers\/op.pdf\u0022\u003Eproblems\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;involving curves and surfaces in Euclidean space, and more broadly Riemannian submanifolds. He completed his\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ghomi.math.gatech.edu\/Papers\/Thesis.pdf\u0022\u003EPhD thesis\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/a\u003Ein 1998 under the direction of\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/mathematics.jhu.edu\/directory\/joel-spruck\/\u0022\u003EJoel Spruck\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;at\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/mathematics.jhu.edu\/\u0022\u003EJohns Hopkins U.\u003C\/a\u003E, where he had received the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/sites.krieger.jhu.edu\/math-intranet\/for-undergraduate-students\/undergraduate-awards\/\u0022\u003EJ.J. Sylvester Award\u003C\/a\u003E. Subsequently he held positions at\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.math.ucsc.edu\/\u0022\u003EU.C. Santa Cruz\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.math.sc.edu\/\u0022\u003EU. South Carolina\u003C\/a\u003E, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.math.psu.edu\/\u0022\u003EPenn State U.\u003C\/a\u003E, before moving to Georgia Tech in 2005. His research has been consistently supported by\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/funding\/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5549\u0026amp;org=DMS\u0022\u003ENSF\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;grants including a\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward.do?AwardNumber=0332333\u0022\u003ECAREER Award\u003C\/a\u003E, and he has been a\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.simonsfoundation.org\/mathematics-physical-sciences\/simons-fellows\/\u0022\u003ESimons Fellow\u003C\/a\u003E.
