Fall Move-In Brings Traffic to Campus

Housing and Residence Life, within Student Engagement and Well-Being, is approaching one of its busiest times of the fall semester: move-in. The campus community should be alert for impacts to traffic and additional congestion on Sunday and Monday, Aug. 13-14, as nearly 4,000 new first-year, transfer, and graduate Yellow Jackets move into Georgia Tech’s residence halls. Traffic congestion is expected throughout the entire week when an additional 4,000 upper-class and graduate residents will move in.

The move-in process on Sunday, Aug. 13, and Monday, Aug. 14, is expected to include impacts on traffic patterns and additional congestion. Here’s what those on campus need to know:

Residents moving in will enter campus heading westbound on North Avenue and turn right on Tech Parkway to get to the back entrance of the CRC Parking Deck for check-in. There will be additional congestion on these routes; expect delays.

After check-in, residents will turn left onto Ferst Drive from the CRC Parking Deck and onto Techwood Drive for East Campus. Ferst Drive will remain open to traffic. Please use caution, as traffic lanes will shift. GTPD officers and volunteers will direct traffic on-site.

Expect additional delays and congestion throughout West Campus, on Techwood Drive, and Centennial Olympic Park Drive for East Campus and North Avenue move-in, and along Tenth Street for Graduate housing.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while we alter campus traffic- it helps us provide a gold-carpet experience for our incoming students,” Dr. Jenny Cotton, Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life said.

Additionally, drivers should abide by all parking notices and posted No Parking signage, as these areas are necessary for resident check-in, unloading, and short-term parking. This includes:

W10-CRC Deck

            -Alternative Parking: W02-Student Center Deck.

ER54-North Ave. South Deck

-Please park on Levels 2 and 3 only.

WR29 On-street parking

  -Alternative Parking: W31-IPST Lot.

ER51 On-street parking

-Alternative Parking: E52-Peters Deck.
