Williams will\nbecome the interim chair for the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)\nat the Georgia Institute of Technology, effective July 1. Dr. Williams will\nsucceed Gary S. May, who will become the next dean of the College of\nEngineering next month, and he will hold this position until a new, permanent\nschool chair is named.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Williams joined Georgia\nTech in 1989 as an assistant professor in ECE, and for the past eight years, he\nhas served as the School\u2019s associate chair for undergraduate affairs. While\nassociate chair, Dr. Williams has had numerous opportunities to represent ECE,\nboth on campus and to external audiences. In the past year, he has served on\nGeorgia Tech\u2019s Executive Board, chaired the International Plan Committee, and\nbeen Georgia Tech\u2019s advocate to the University System of Georgia\u2019s Faculty\nCouncil. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EA long-time member of the Center\nfor Signal and Image Processing, Dr. Williams is active within the IEEE Signal\nProcessing Society. Within that Society, he has been a member-at-large on the\nBoard of Governors, an area editor for the \u003Cem\u003EIEEE\nSignal Processing Magazine\u003C\/em\u003E, and a member of the technical committees for\nSignal Processing Theory \u0026amp; Methods and Signal Processing Education. Dr.\nWilliams also represents IEEE as an ABET Program Evaluator for electrical\nengineering and computer engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe search for a permanent\nECE school chair will begin in August, and the composition of the search committee\nwill be announced later this summer. Plans for temporarily filling Dr.\nWilliams\u2019 current role as ECE associate chair for undergraduate affairs are\nevolving and will be announced at a later date.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI\u2019d personally like to\nthank Doug for agreeing to take on this important responsibility, and I am very\nconfident that he will lead the School very effectively until a permanent\nschool chair can be identified,\u201d Dr. May said. \u201cPlease join me in lending your\nsupport to him as he assumes the interim school chair role at the beginning of\nnext month and throughout his tenure in this position.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\n\n\nDouglas B.
