P. \u201cBud\u201d Peterson. The report,\n\u201cDefining a Path Forward for Georgia Tech-Savannah,\u201d is a comprehensive review\nof the coastal campus and the Georgia Tech Regional Engineering Program (GTREP).\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia\nTech Provost and Chair of the task force Rafael L. Bras shared recommendations\noutlined in the report firsthand with the Savannah campus faculty and staff on\nJune 1.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EHighlights\nfrom the task force include recommendations that will allow Georgia Tech-Savannah\nto continue to have a strong presence in Southeast Georgia by creating a new\nacademic and operational model for the campus while phasing out current degree\nprograms. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u201cThrough the review process, it has been our\npriority to consider the needs of our faculty, staff and students, as well as the\ncommunity and stakeholders that we serve,\u201d said Provost Bras. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\ncampus will operate in a \u201cbusiness as usual mode\u201d during the summer and fall\nsemesters of 2011. If the report is accepted, Georgia Tech will work\nindividually with students in Savannah to provide the support necessary to aid\nthem in completing their Georgia Tech degree program, according to Bras. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EPending\nformal acceptance of the recommendations, the task force endorsed a gradual\ntransition plan to phase out the current focus on undergraduate degree programs.\nAn implementation plan for the new operational model would be initiated in\nparallel with this process.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nproposed organization, designed to be viable and self-sustaining, includes a\nportfolio of programs ranging from co-curricular undergraduate activities to instruction\nfor the military and executive and other non-credit education programs to\nprofessional master\u2019s degrees. In addition, the recommendations include the\noption of developing regional research opportunities. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe\nreport captures input from our Savannah and Atlanta campuses and stakeholders\nin the Savannah community and coastal region,\u201d said Bras. \u201cI sincerely\nappreciate the concerns and the ideas that have been expressed.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ECurrently,\nGeorgia Tech-Savannah offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in four\nengineering majors: civil, computer, electrical and mechanical. A Master of\nScience (undesignated) is also available. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EChanges\nto the academic programs are subject to the policies of the University System\nof Georgia and notification to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools\n(SACS) and the \u003Cem\u003EAccreditation Board for Engineering and Technology\u003C\/em\u003E (ABET).\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThere\nwill be a 10-day comment period for those who would like to share ideas or\nrespond to the task force report.
