He has experience in\u0026nbsp;systems design and optimization as well as flight mechanics and controls.\u0026nbsp;Lightsey earned his Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University. He likens this exciting era of moon exploration \u2014 such as Artemis 1\u2014 to the stuff of science fiction novels that aerospace engineers dream about. Lightsey has authored and co-authored more than 140 technical articles and publications. He is an\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.aiaa.org\/\u0022\u003EAmerican Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;Fellow and a founding member of the AIAA Small Satellite Technical Committee.
