Athletics Sends Teams Across Country for Tournament Play

This weekend, four Tech athletics teams will pursue
victory in their respective sports. Though none will take place on campus, you
can send your support to the teams online as they travel to compete for the
Institute.

After earning its third consecutive ACC
Championship and being ranked second in the nation, Tech’s golf team earned the
top seed in the NCAA Virginia Tech Regional. The team will play throughout the
weekend, beginning Thursday, May 19, through Saturday, May 21, at the Pete Dye
River Course in Radford, Va. Team members Anders Albertson and Oliver
Schniederjans also advanced to a sectional qualifying round for the U.S. Open
on Tuesday.

The men’s tennis team will compete in its
NCAA Championship this weekend in Stanford, Calif. The team will first take on
the University of Southern California on Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by either
Florida or Kentucky on Saturday at 3 p.m. The NCAA Singles/Doubles Championship
is also in Stanford on Wednesday, May 25, at 3 p.m. This is the Yellow Jackets’
first trek to the NCAA Championship since 1994. Not to be outmatched, the
women’s tennis team will compete in the third round of its NCAA Tournament on
Friday. The team will go up against Duke in Stanford, Calif., at noon.

After an upset against Virginia last weekend
in the ACC Tournament, Georgia Tech softball will play in the NCAA
Knoxville Regional against Oklahoma State on Friday, marking the team’s
tenth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
