{"662058":{"#nid":"662058","#data":{"type":"news","title":"A Wish Come True for Sammie","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA very special 12-year-old from our community suited up and hit the field with Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s student-athletes for Homecoming weekend.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESammie was born with a rare chromosomal disorder that makes her prone to seizures and has affected her development. This often left her feeling isolated and excluded, but she\u0026rsquo;s found joy through sports and competing in the Special Olympics. She is a huge softball and volleyball fan, and, as it turns out, also a big fan of the Yellow Jackets.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETogether with the organization \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dreamon3.org\/\u0022\u003EDream On 3\u003C\/a\u003E, Georgia Tech student-athletes and coaches wanted to make sure Sammie had a weekend she would never forget \u0026mdash; so they welcomed her to campus for Homecoming.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESammie\u0026rsquo;s weekend started with the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ramblinwreck.com\/sports\/w-softbl\/\u0022\u003ETech softball\u003C\/a\u003E team. She took part in practice and warmups with the players. Then it was on to visit with the nationally ranked \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ramblinwreck.com\/sports\/w-volley\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech volleyball \u003C\/a\u003Eteam, and Sammie got to hang out in the locker room before the Jackets played the University of Virginia.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHomecoming weekend at Georgia Tech wouldn\u0026rsquo;t be complete without a visit to Bobby Dodd Stadium. Sammie was fitted for her own cheerleading uniform, and joined the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/gtspirit.org\/cheerleading\/\u0022\u003Echeer team\u003C\/a\u003E for the pregame traditions in Yellow Jacket Alley before being recognized on the field \u0026mdash; where the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ramblinwreck.com\/sports\/m-footbl\/\u0022\u003Efootball\u003C\/a\u003E team brought home a victory against Duke.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I cannot say enough great things about the Athletics staff that we worked with at Georgia Tech to make Sammie\u0026rsquo;s dream experience so memorable,\u0026rdquo; said Amelia White, volunteer and operations manager for Dream On 3. \u0026ldquo;Each team each took the time to speak with Sammie and spend quality time with her.
