This was the 20\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E meeting of the biennial event, which is known as one of the premier workshops for researchers to discuss recent advances in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe workshop started in 1984 and draws attendees from academia, industry, and government organizations with diverse backgrounds in engineering and science. It opened to international attendees in 2020 and provides a forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration. This year\u0026rsquo;s theme was \u0026quot;Preparation and Prevention: Tackling our Grand Challenges.\u0026quot;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENine papers from Georgia Tech researchers in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/nano\u0022\u003EInstitute for Electronics and Nanotechnology\u003C\/a\u003E (IEN) were accepted to the conference. The paper, \u003Cem\u003EA Microtip Equipped Bidirectional Microrobot for Navigating on and Penetrating a Leaf Surface\u003C\/em\u003E, presented by \u003Cstrong\u003ETony H. Wang\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EDea Gyu Kim\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EZhijian Hao\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/azadeh-ansari\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAzadeh Ansari\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, won the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.hh2022.org\/awards\/best_paper_and_poster.html\u0022\u003ESpringer Nature Best Poster Award\u003C\/a\u003E. In addition, the paper \u003Cem\u003EWafer-Level High-Aspect-Ratio Deep Reactive Ion Etching of 4h-Silicon Carbide on Insulator Substrates\u003C\/em\u003E presented by \u003Cstrong\u003EArdalan Lotfi\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EMicheal P. Hardin\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EZhenming Liu\u003C\/strong\u003E, Alex Wood, Chris Bolton, Kevin Riddell, Huma Ashraf, Joanne Carpenter, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/farrokh-ayazi\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFarrokh Ayazi\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, was one of two runners up in the category.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I consider this the flagship North American conference for MEMS researchers,\u0026rdquo; said IEN Executive Director \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/oliver-brand\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EOliver Brand\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E. \u0026ldquo;It is a highly interactive workshop and a great opportunity for our graduate students to learn about the newest research and mingle with their peers from the top MEMS research groups across the country.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s strong presence in paper presentations, IEN Principal Research Scientist \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/paul-joseph\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPaul Joseph\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E ran a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/nnci.net\/\u0022\u003ENational Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure\u003C\/a\u003E (NNCI) booth to spread the word about the initiative, which the National Science Foundation funds.
