Stingelin has been a faculty member in the College of Engineering since 2016, with joint appointments in MSE and the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.chbe.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering\u003C\/a\u003E. She will begin her new role August 1.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Natalie is an innovator with a bold vision for the future. These attributes, in addition to being a world-renowned researcher and her ongoing efforts to increase diversity in engineering, make her the best choice to lead MSE,\u0026rdquo; said Raheem Beyah, dean of the College of Engineering and Southern Company Chair. \u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;m excited to continue to partner with Natalie as she begins this new chapter of her Georgia Tech career.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStingelin is a well-regarded researcher in polymer physics, functional soft matter, organic electronics and photonics, and bioelectronics. She received the 2022 Georgia Tech Outstanding Achievement in Research Innovation Award. She serves as the director of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cope.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter for Organic Photonics and Electronics\u003C\/a\u003E and is an initiative lead for the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/materials\u0022\u003EInstitute for Materials\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the next chair of the School of Materials Science and Engineering,\u0026rdquo; Stingelin said. \u0026ldquo;I am very much looking forward to working closely with our students, faculty, and staff to foster and nurture an inclusive and impactful MSE community. I\u0026rsquo;m also excited to promote the School\u0026rsquo;s excellence in delivering transformational science and engineering, strengthening ties across campus with the other Schools and Colleges, and helping to revolutionize materials science education as we embrace the increasingly multidisciplinary nature of our field.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStingelin is a fellow of the Materials Research Society and the UK\u0026rsquo;s Royal Society of Chemistry. In 2021, she was \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.chbe.gatech.edu\/news\/2021\/12\/natalie-stingelin-named-fellow-national-academy-inventors\u0022\u003Eelected a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI)\u003C\/a\u003E, an honor given to the highest level of academic inventors. The NAI recognized Stingelin\u0026rsquo;s significant contributions in polymer physics and organic electronics and photonics. This includes the advancement of novel strategies, like organic semiconductors and inorganic\/organic hybrid materials, that enable processing and design of soft electronics with unique functional properties as well as her work creating innovative device architectures.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2021, she was selected for the French-British Prize by the French Society of Chemistry and the U.K.\u0026#39;s\u0026nbsp;Royal Society of Chemistry. The same year, she also received a prestigious \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.suffragescience.org\/post\/leading-women-in-engineering-and-physical-sciences-receive-awards-on-scheme-s-tenth-anniversary\u0022\u003ESuffrage Science award for the Engineering and Physical Sciences\u003C\/a\u003E. She was one of 12 women chosen by their peers for outstanding scientific research, communication work, and support of women in STEM\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStingelin was awarded a Chaire Internationale Associ\u0026eacute;e\u0026nbsp;by\u0026nbsp;the Excellence Initiative of the Universit\u0026eacute; de Bordeaux\u0026nbsp;in\u0026nbsp;2017, and she won the Institute of Materials, Minerals \u0026amp; Mining\u0026#39;s Rosenhain Medal and Prize in 2014.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStingelin\u0026rsquo;s career has included six years at the Imperial College London, as well as positions at the Philips Research Laboratories in the Netherlands and the University of Cambridge.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe succeeds \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.mse.gatech.edu\/people\/naresh-thadhani\u0022\u003ENaresh Thadhani\u003C\/a\u003E, who is \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/coe.gatech.edu\/news\/2022\/01\/naresh-thadhani-step-down-mse-chair\u0022\u003Estepping down as chair after 10 years\u003C\/a\u003E and returning to the faculty. Since MSE was formed in 2010, the School has been consistently ranked among the top materials programs in the nation by \u003Cem\u003EU.S. News \u0026amp; World Report\u003C\/em\u003E. The program is ranked fourth among undergraduate programs and seventh among graduate programs.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;m thankful for Naresh\u0026rsquo;s leadership and guidance in MSE.
