{"658731":{"#nid":"658731","#data":{"type":"news","title":"CIFAR Selects Eva Dyer for Global Scholars Research and Leadership Development Program","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAssistant Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/bme.gatech.edu\/bme\/faculty\/Eva-Dyer\u0022\u003EEva Dyer\u003C\/a\u003E has been selected for a program that previous participants have called transformative for the community, mentorship, and foundational research opportunities it provides.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDyer is among the newest \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cifar.ca\/next-generation\/global-scholars\/\u0022\u003ECIFAR Azrieli Global Scholars\u003C\/a\u003E, a two-year program that aims to accelerate the careers of young researchers with $100,000 of unrestricted research support, mentoring, and a worldwide network. The idea, according to \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cifar.ca\/\u0022\u003ECIFAR\u003C\/a\u003E \u0026mdash; originally the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research \u0026mdash; is to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and cutting-edge ideas to address the most important questions facing humanity. Only 18 researchers around the world are part of the new cohort.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDyer is an assistant professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. She said the program\u0026rsquo;s core of building community within her field and well beyond is incredibly attractive.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;They have a number of thoughtful approaches for building community among young researchers,\u0026rdquo; Dyer said. \u0026ldquo;As a scholar, you are connected to an amazing network of fellows and advisors for the program, all of whom are luminaries in the field, and provided an opportunity to share your science and get feedback. At the same time, the program connects scholars across different fields and provides opportunities to collaborate and discuss global challenges that need interdisciplinary approaches.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDyer\u0026rsquo;s research \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/bme.gatech.edu\/bme\/news\/making-sense-brain\u0022\u003Elies at the intersection of machine learning and neuroscience\u003C\/a\u003E. She \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dyerlab.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Edevelops machine learning approaches\u003C\/a\u003E to analyze and interpret massive, complex neural datasets, and at the same time, works to design better artificial intelligence inspired by the organization and function of the brain. As a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar affiliated with the organization\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cifar.ca\/research-programs\/learning-in-machines-brains\/\u0022\u003ELearning in Machines \u0026amp; Brains program\u003C\/a\u003E, Dyer will have access to a senior researcher mentor and focused leadership and communications skills training.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The Global Scholars program will serve as a catalyst to expand my research program into new areas. I want to learn more about how other fields model and interpret data from complex systems and think more about how we can leverage these ideas into our pursuits toward understanding neural computation,\u0026rdquo; Dyer said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECIFAR scholars are in the first five years of their research careers in natural, biomedical, and social sciences or the humanities.
