I collaborated with my advisor, Mechanical Engineering Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/andrei-fedorov\u0022\u003EAndrei Fedorov\u003C\/a\u003E, and we utilized the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/sums.gatech.edu\/SUMS_React\/View_Equipment_React?ToolId=984\u0026amp;DepartmentId=2\u0022\u003ENanoscribe\u003C\/a\u003E to make micro-3d printed parts. This allowed me to take interesting SEM images using the Field Emissions Scanning Electron Microscopes. My Ph.D. project was probably the most satisfying to \u0026quot;complete,\u0026quot; but I am still working on it to this day.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAt the core of my work was a microfluidic mass exchanger that I built in the IEN cleanrooms at Georgia Tech. As a result of this project, Professor Fedorov and I co-founded the startup \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/andsonbiotech.com\/\u0022\u003EAndson Biotech\u003C\/a\u003E. The company is growing, and we recently licensed the technology to enable better biopharmaceutical workflows.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat advice would you give to other researchers thinking about using a tool in the IEN cleanroom? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI would say to only use the cleanroom for your research if you have a burning desire to learn about MEMS\/microfabrication or you have to do so for your project. There are very rarely \u0026quot;quick\u0026quot; projects inside cleanrooms. In general, I think if you have the opportunity to learn about anything new you should take that chance.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is your favorite thing about the IEN cleanroom? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMy favorite thing about the IEN cleanroom is the people I\u0026#39;ve met. Some of my best and longest-term friends have been made in these cleanrooms. I really miss working in the cleanroom as often as I used to, because I don\u0026#39;t get to interact with all my best friends. Unfortunately, many of my original friends [from the cleanroom] have moved on to other things.
