{"658049":{"#nid":"658049","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Center for Advanced Electronics through Machine Learning Receives Phase II Funding from The National Science Foundation","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs the global demand for microelectronics continues to surge, the mission of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/publish.illinois.edu\/advancedelectronics\/?msclkid=bbf6f06bcfb211eca742ae3d24154b76\u0022\u003ECenter for Advanced Electronics through Machine Learning\u003C\/a\u003E (CAEML) to \u0026ldquo;apply machine learning to the design of optimized microelectronic circuits and systems\u0026rdquo; has become even more crucial. As part of Phase I funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), CAEML researchers and students worked closely with industry partners to develop models and design tools to enable efficient and reliable fabrication of microelectronic systems while protecting intellectual property. With the new Phase II funding, this effort is expected to grow significantly through increased interest and partnership from the semiconductor industry.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Design space exploration and optimization have had limited success in the past due to slow simulators,\u0026rdquo; said \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/madhavan-swaminathan\u0022\u003EMadhavan Swaminathan\u003C\/a\u003E, CAEML site director at Georgia Tech. \u0026ldquo;In Phase I we have repeatedly shown that \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iucrc.nsf.gov\/centers\/achievements\/bayesian-learning-applied-to-semiconductor-packaging\/\u0022\u003Emachine learning based methods can significantly improve computational time and enhance productivity\u003C\/a\u003E. These advantages have been quantified by several CAEML industry partners through deployment of these techniques into their workflow.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring phase I, the team published more than 70 papers, delivered 20 webinars, and received 11 awards or award nominations for their work with the Center. In addition, 12 students who participated in CAEML\u0026rsquo;s Phase I research have been hired by industry partners.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECAEML is part of the NSF\u0026rsquo;s Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) program and includes faculty from Georgia Tech, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and North Carolina State University (NCSU).
