Next year, he will be a\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/656434\/vergara-named-cisneros-visiting-scholar-harvard-university\u0022 rel=\u0022noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ECisneros Visiting Scholar\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAssistant Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/allen-hyde\u0022\u003EAllen Hyde\u003C\/a\u003E won the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.ctl.gatech.edu\/faculty\/awards\/ctl-bp\u0022\u003E2022 CTL\/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.\u003C\/a\u003E He is one of the six faculty members at Georgia Tech to receive the honor.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFinally, Assistant Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/kate-pride-brown\u0022\u003EKate Pride Brown\u003C\/a\u003E and Assistant Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/todd-michney\u0022\u003ETodd Michney\u003C\/a\u003E have both \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/656609\/four-ivan-allen-college-faculty-members-earn-promotion-tenure\u0022\u003Ebeen promoted\u003C\/a\u003E to associate professor with tenure! He was recognized\u0026nbsp;at the Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on April 7.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHSOC\u0026#39;s Graduate Committee named Ph.D. candidate\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/e4aa55f6-d75e-5ba8-8925-b21c6998f657\u0022\u003EAlejandra Ruiz Leon\u003C\/a\u003E this year\u0026#39;s winner of the Homer Rice Award. The award recognizes an HSOC graduate student who, through volunteerism, has fostered a sense of community in the School of History and Sociology and broader communities. Named in honor of Dr. Homer Rice, Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s former athletic director, the award offers a modest monetary stipend as well as recognition on the HSOC award wall in the Old CE Building.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlejandra was nominated by multiple members of the HSOC community, who spoke to the many ways that she has served and impacted HSOC, Ivan Allen College, Georgia Tech, and beyond. Wills has thrown himself into life in HSOC and at Georgia Tech like few other first-year students in the program have over the years, and\u0026nbsp;the Graduate Committee is\u0026nbsp;pleased to recognize his great work and valued presence through this honorable mention.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWills also won a\u0026nbsp;Graduate Research Presentation Award at the IAC Tenth Annual Graduate Research Conference, where more than 15 students presented their research. Each winner will receive $750 towards research funds.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winners of this year\u0026#39;s awards for best GTA are\u0026nbsp;Mike Bivona\u0026nbsp;for best instruction in an in-person class\u0026nbsp;and Addison Malone\u0026nbsp;for best instruction in an online course.\u0026nbsp;Malone also won the Center for Teaching and Learning\u0026#39;s Institute-wide award for \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ctl.gatech.edu\/content\/awards\u0022\u003EOnline Teaching Assistant of the Year\u003C\/a\u003E. She was recognized for her efforts in SOC 1101 under the advisement of\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/amy-dunger\u0022\u003EAmy D\u0026#39;Unger\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFinally, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/8e6ac738-7497-5f94-ab1a-0c3fd32d15a7\u0022\u003EDeclan Abernethy\u003C\/a\u003E has been awarded a\u0026nbsp;Herbert H. Haley Fellowship from Georgia Tech, an honor that comes with a one-time payment from the Institute.
