{"657099":{"#nid":"657099","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Colatrella Named 2022 Ivan Allen Jr. Faculty Legacy Award Winner","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ECongratulations to our esteemed faculty member, Carol Colatrella, for being named the 2022 Ivan Allen Jr. Faculty Legacy Award Winner!\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Legacy Award is given to an undergraduate student, graduate student, and faculty member\u0026nbsp;each year whose lives and work embody the spirit of Georgia Tech alumnus and former Atlanta mayor\u0026nbsp;Ivan Allen Jr. (Commerce 1934).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EColatrella is a professor of literature and co-director of the Center for the Study of Women, Science, and Technology in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. She teaches courses in American and comparative literature, gender studies, and cultural studies of science and technology.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 1993, she has served as the executive director of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts. She\u202fwas\u202fIvan Allen College\u0026#39;s associate dean for graduate studies and faculty development from August 2012 to August 2021. Previously, she was a member of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s ADVANCE\u202fTeam from 2001 through 2011, supporting the Institute\u0026rsquo;s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;Colatrella holds master\u0026rsquo;s and doctorate degrees in comparative literature from Rutgers University. She earned her bachelor\u0026rsquo;s degree in liberal arts from St. John\u0026rsquo;s College in Annapolis, Maryland.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EColatrella was honored at the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/community\/distinguishedalumniawards\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDistinguished Alumni Awards\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;ceremony on April 7, 2022.\u0026nbsp;The eighth annual celebration honored exceptional alumni from each of the six academic schools and three Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAs stewards of Mayor Allen\u0026rsquo;s legacy, the College champions research, teaching, and service that encompass Mayor Allen\u0026rsquo;s visionary urban policies and his values of social courage, social justice, and ethical action. Recipients are selected from nominees considered by the Legacy Awards Committee led by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EThe Legacy Awards are supported through the generosity of Col.
