As part of the change, the team named \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/f7a0b486-5836-5882-ae6c-e02584ad3d5d\u0022\u003EMelissa Ianetta\u003C\/a\u003E, interim chair of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) and executive director of the Writing and Communication Program, as their faculty advisor.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We\u0026rsquo;re all excited to start this next chapter in our organization\u0026#39;s existence and thrilled to have Dr. Ianetta as our advisor,\u0026rdquo; Andrew Dowdy, president of the Debate Team and a second-year computer science major, said. \u0026ldquo;As a nationally regarded writing and rhetoric scholar, her expertise will be of enormous benefit to the team as we work together to propel our team to new heights.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStudent organization faculty advisor roles are renewed annually. However, faculty advisors typically stay with organizations for five to 10 years, Dowdy said. \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/wcprogram.lmc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/4b01b506-0eed-5af6-84dd-d9bccf971cab\u0022\u003EBianca Batti\u003C\/a\u003E, a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/wcprogram.lmc.gatech.edu\/brittain-fellowship\u0022\u003EMarion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow\u003C\/a\u003E in the School of LMC, was the team\u0026rsquo;s former advisor.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I was very excited when the Debate Team asked me to serve as their faculty advisor,\u0026rdquo; Ianetta said. \u0026ldquo;Not only because this seems like a natural extension of the Writing and Communication Program\u0026rsquo;s mission and my charge as the Class of 1958 Professor in Communication, but also because it gives me the opportunity to work beyond the classroom with a remarkable group of students.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/gatech.campuslabs.com\/engage\/organization\/debate-team\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003EDebate Team at Georgia Tech\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cem\u003E competes in various forms of speech and debate, in addition to offering General Body Meetings which occasionally serve as forums for the discussion of ideas.
