With Covid cases declining in France, students were able to participate in some enriching excursions during the Fall semester. Here is a brief look at three different opportunities students participated in\u0026nbsp;to get out and have some fun!\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EVisiting a Chateau by Night\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech-Lorraine\u0026rsquo;s student activities association, known as the \u003Cem\u003EBureau des \u0026eacute;tudiants\u003C\/em\u003E (BDE) in French, wisely chose to plan an event during \u003Cem\u003ELa nuit des ch\u0026acirc;teaux\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Chateau\u0026nbsp;Night), an annual event that takes place throughout France on\u202fOctober 23rd. Hundreds\u0026nbsp;of chateaus\u0026nbsp;around the country open their doors for an atmospheric visit by candlelight. The goal of the evening is\u202fto increase\u202fpublic awareness of discovering and preserving the heritage\u202fof these beautiful monuments, with the majority of proceeds going toward preserving the chateaus. \u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith the help of Katia M\u0026eacute;nard-Pons who oversees\u0026nbsp;campus life at GTL, the BDE organized a visit to the \u003Cem\u003ECh\u0026acirc;teau de Preisch\u003C\/em\u003E, located about an hour\u0026rsquo;s drive from Metz. Guided by candlelight, students experienced the magic of a nocturnal visit of\u202fa gorgeous local chateau,\u0026nbsp;wandering\u0026nbsp;the illuminated chateau halls to the accompaniment of music performed by local musicians. It was a night to remember and far away from the tried-and-true tourist trail.\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ELunch at a Hotel Management School\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EA group of GTL students enjoyed lunch at a local hotel management school in Metz. It was a chance to mingle with hotel management students who were around the same age, while savoring\u0026nbsp;a\u0026nbsp;multi-course lunch prepared by student chefs. Most discussions were held in Franglais or in English, and any\u202fGTL students who were studying French had a captive audience of local students who were more than happy to\u202fchat with them in French. A fun time was had by all, and it was an immersive cultural experience that the students will never forget. \u202f\u0026nbsp;\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ELocal Sporting Tournaments\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEvery year in late September, GTL invites students to the \u0026ldquo;Moselle Open,\u0026rdquo; a professional tennis tournament that is part of the ATP World Tour. The annual event draws world-ranked professional players and\u202fis played on indoor hard courts at the \u003Cem\u003EAr\u0026egrave;nes de Metz\u003C\/em\u003E, a local indoor sports arena. It is also a great place to see up and coming professional tennis players such as Metz\u0026rsquo; own Ugo Humbert, as he tries to move up in the professional tennis rankings.\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGTL provided tickets for 20 students to attend this local \u0026ldquo;Open\u0026rdquo; that happens only once a year. Another group of 20 students got to experience a fast-paced women\u0026rsquo;s professional handball match, while cheering on local champions, the \u003Cem\u003EDragonnes\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;on their home court at the \u003Cem\u003EAr\u0026egrave;nes de Metz\u003C\/em\u003E sports arena.\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThese were great opportunities for students to\u202fdiscover local sports teams and watch\u202fa tennis open with professionally ranked players.
