  <title><![CDATA[Inside the High Stakes Race to Test the Covid Tests]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Over the last two years, a group of researchers at Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Children&#39;s Healthcare of Atlanta&nbsp;has played a key, but largely hidden, role in<br />
getting Covid tests into the hands of Americans, working with the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nih.gov">National Institutes of Health</a> and the <a href="https://www.fda.gov">Food and Drug Administration</a>.&nbsp;&ldquo;We kind of functioned as their eyes and hands to answer the&nbsp;question, Do these tests work?&rdquo; said&nbsp;<a href="https://petitinstitute.gatech.edu/wilbur-lam">Wilbur Lam</a>, professor in the <a href="https://research.gatech.edu/bio">Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB</a>).&nbsp;&ldquo;Essentially, we&rsquo;re testing the tests.&rdquo; College of Sciences contributors to the Georgia Tech/Emory/CHOA collaboration include <a href="https://biosciences.gatech.edu/people/gregory-gibson">Greg Gibson</a>,&nbsp;Regents Professor, Tom and Marie Patton Chair in the <a href="https://biosciences.gatech.edu">School of&nbsp;Biological Sciences</a>, Director of the Center for Integrative Genomics, and IBB member; <a href="https://petitinstitute.gatech.edu/steve-woodard">Steve Woodward</a>, senior assistant director, core facilities, IBB; and <a href="https://petitinstitute.gatech.edu/andres-garcia">Andr&eacute;s Garcia</a>, IBB executive director. Georgia Tech&nbsp;Surveillance Testing&nbsp;also participated&nbsp;in&nbsp;sample collection and sequencing.</p>
