Nunn Co-authors Op-ed Urging Leaders to Untie ‘Knot of War’ in Europe

Former Senator Sam Nunn, namesake of the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, co-authored an op-ed that was published in The Hill on Feb. 10. The article, titled “Leaders must untie the 'knot of war' in Europe,” discussed the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Nunn wrote the piece alongside Jon Huntsman Jr. and former Secretary of Energy Ernest J. Moniz. In it, they argue that “there will only be losers” if Russia invades Ukraine by outlining consequences that Russia, Ukraine, and the West would all face. The authors argue that this could be avoided if Russia and the West were to achieve productive, security-focused discussions. They close by providing a potential agenda for said talks.

“Prioritizing efforts to address practical security concerns — rather than focusing on intractable political disagreements — presents the only sane way to loosen the knot of war,” the authors write.
