Estey Power and Energy Society Scholarship, which is awarded by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETonge is a fourth-year student in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). He will be graduating this May with his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETonge has been an IEEE PES Scholarship Plus recipient for the past two years, and\u0026nbsp;this year, he has been selected as the John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar for Region 3.\u0026nbsp;Tonge has most recently held an internship with the Green Power EMC\/Oglethorpe Power Corporation, where he was an Emerging Technologies Intern.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETonge\u0026nbsp;has been working on a utility-scale battery energy storage system project to better utilize and regulate the output from a solar generation plant in order to research and develop the technology for Georgia\u0026rsquo;s electric membership cooperatives (EMCs).\u0026nbsp;These EMCs supply power to more than four million people across the state.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETonge\u0026nbsp;credits his passion for engineering to his family, who are great problem solvers and are\u0026nbsp;always fixing problems through creative solutions. He hopes to be involved in the modernization of the\u0026nbsp;electric grid\u0026nbsp;through the implementation of automated switching, distributed generation, and other\u0026nbsp;smart grid technologies in the local community.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ETan Tonge has received the John W.
